Re: G6 - I think it's G6, it's the one that's available currently. If I remember right, it's G6.

Question: How much faster would a new server be - per core?

Old system:
DL380G3 DDR ram, 533 Mhz FSB, 3.2Ghz processors, hyperthreaded.

New system:
DL380G6, DDR3 1.667 Ghz FSB. 3.2Ghz quad core.

So, per core, how much faster would a CPU & memory process be? That is, a single threaded process running ONE thing (actually a java engine running a single memory/cpu process).
Or, maybe an Apache server, or Tomcat, etc.


Oh yeah, the OS is Linux.

Has anyone made an upgrade similar (maybe G3 to G5) upgrade on the Proliant platform in which they can give me some numbers, memories, impressions, etc?

You are correct, it is a G7 - I just confirmed that with Sales. Thanks for the link as well, I was just on there, but I don't see benchmarks back to G3 days. I'll keep looking - I appreciate the assist.

During the server power on and boot up process, press the F9 key when prompted on the monitor screen. From the RBSU menu select the choice of one of the following:
Advanced Options
Advanced Options -> Processor Options

so you could disable cores/HT ...... enable TURBO mode.
