Question about RHN Satelitte server

Folks,

I would like to receive opinions from people who have used RHN Satelitte servers to support their work environment. Below are a few questions I have:

1. In general, is the product good and stable?
2. Which of RHN Satelitte management, provisioning and monitoring you like most and why?
3.If you taken RedHat 401 on RHN Satelitte, do you think that it is worth taking it?
4. Anything else you would like to share about this product?

Thanks.

Re: Question about RHN Satelitte server

1. In general, is the product good and stable?

YES Absolutely.

2. Which of RHN Satelitte management, provisioning and monitoring you like most and why?

ALL. Simple reason -- you won't need an army of RHCEs or SysAds when you have RHN Satellite.

3.If you taken RedHat 401 on RHN Satelitte, do you think that it is worth taking it?

Not Worth. RHN Satellite is erally easy.

4. Anything else you would like to share about this product?

Not much more that you can cull from the RedHat Website.

Re: Question about RHN Satelitte server

Alzhy et al,

Thanks for your quick, useful reply. Do you know:

1. where I can find free, useful documentaion of RHN satellite to read?
2. What course offered by Red Hat you think may improve ones' marketability?

Thanks.

Re: Question about RHN Satelitte server

Here:

https://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/satellite/Red_Hat_Network_Satellite-5.1.0/html/Reference_Guide/index.html

RHN Satellite is advisable if you aer just starting and your RH ecosystem is a fairly "large" one.

Enjoy!

Re: Question about RHN Satelitte server

Shalom,

1. Yes
2. Do not use it because it was too expensive for my company.
3. N/A
4. It can be replaced for free open source.

If you want to deliver patches to your systems, or updates, you can collect them and put the rpm's into yum respositories and use Centos yum to actually update your RHEL systems.

I built a system like that in Jersualem, Israel.

Some of the high end, features can not so easily be replaced, but before you spend the money, take a close look at what you expect RHN Satellite to do.
