How much memory does the system have:
free
You may simply have to little memory.
If this is a desktop system, it may not have proper Linux Driver support.

and who knows if all the internals of this model are supported in the best manner.
This laptop is not on the redhat certified HW list but not everthing that works is either.

I'm not familiar with your hardware but if Linux is unfamiliar with it, say its windows only hardware as much of HP's entry level hardware is, you may have a problem.
