RHEL 5.4 x86 on DL385 G7 (one Opteron) - installation fails

I understand that there are RHN errata to be applied. However, I cannot get the server to install at all. Usually fails at "loading cciss". Have been using "nosmp noapic text" and sometimes other guesses. Without "nosmp" get the "weird CPU not recognized bug".

I have tried RHEL5.2 and RHEL5.5 before finding that only RHEL5.4 supports this Opteron, but now I can't get 5.4 to install. Looking for a way forward.

Also having a similar problem installing RHEL 5.4 x64. The installation fails at the very end after the second reboot......locks up at "starting first time boot configuration".

Try with this boot option:

apic=bigsmp

This work => "apic=bigsmp nosmp". Thanks!

After installation, I had to use rescue mode to re-install GRUB (grub-install /dev/c0d0). That got me to a booted system. Without reinstallation of grub, I had an illegal opcode error on a red screen.
