RHEL AS 4.2 installation problem.
We are installing RHEL4 AS 4 update 2 on a DL580 G4 server with 4 cpu's, 146 * 4 Sas disk configured with Raid 1+0, two 4GB HBA cards (QLA2640) and 10GB RAM.
Problem is after installation it reboots and hangs at the screen saying
"Uncompressing Linux Booting kernel ok'
To isolate the problem we removed the HBA cards and reinstalled the OS but the problem still persists.

Re: RHEL AS 4.2 installation problem.
Note, you can't boot Linux off certain RAID configurations.
I would suggest the OS be installed in a simple, two disk RAID 1 group, set up using the built in RAID utils in the DL580.

Re: RHEL AS 4.2 installation problem.
According to RedHat the minimum certified release is RHEL4 U3.
https://hardware.redhat.com/show.cgi?id=193875
I'd start by trying that version instead. It might be that the cciss driver in the previous release isn't happy with the SmartArray.
Hope this helps,
Regards,
Rob

Re: RHEL AS 4.2 installation problem.
When booting, at GRUB, stop the autoboot process, select your kernel, press "a" and type:
noapic nomca
Then hit ENTER.

Re: RHEL AS 4.2 installation problem.
Also the below link states that RHEL AS 4 update 2 is supported on DL580 G4.
http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/servers/linux/dl580g4-drivers-cert.html
Also tried booting with "noapic nomca" boot parameters.
It goes one step ahead and freezes saying
Red Hat nash version 4.2.16 starting.

Re: RHEL AS 4.2 installation problem.
Have u tried with next version of the RedHat on the same HW Platform.
It is fresh installation??
You had encountered any issues at the time of installation.
Try to install the OS with other source (from other cd).

Re: RHEL AS 4.2 installation problem.
We do not encounter any problem during installation,
also with the same cd im able to install on a DL380G4 server without any problem.
