Shalom Senthil,

This is a common problem with open office. The best way to deal with it is to get the latest patch from up2date or yum patching.

Re: RHEL's OPEN OFFICE very slow in opening

IMHO, 256MB RAM is not enough for OpenOffice. You should upgrade it to 512MB or even 1GB.

Re: RHEL's OPEN OFFICE very slow in opening

This should noticeably speed up your OOo:

Open OpenOffice.org Writer -> Tools -> Options

Under the OpenOffice.org heading, select Memory

Under Graphics Cache change the "Use for OpenOffice.org" to 30 MB

Change "Memory per Object" to 2.0 MB

Close OpenOffice.org

Restart OpenOffice

Re: RHEL's OPEN OFFICE very slow in opening

Hi

openoffice v 1 was very slow and had memory leak issues as well.
Just upgrade the openoffice to version 2 and check the difference.

Re: RHEL's OPEN OFFICE very slow in opening

also opening native OOo files will be faster, so just use that. opening MS-Office files always is slower and takes a while.
