RHEL4 keyboard non responsive after kernel boot ps2 style

Currently have DL380G2 with RILO ver 2.41 installed.

kickstarted RHEL 4 U2 install.

The keyboard works during post up however once I hit the login screen (console) keyboard response dies.

I remember hearing this is a bug with RHEL4 which I thought was fixed in U2 however I guess not.

What needs to be done to fix this? I have numlock on as default in the bios. I heard that may be a problem?

or is there something I can do in the bootup to fix this?

Shalom,

Try a different keyboard. If this one is USB, try one that is not USB.

I've not heard about the numlock thing, but why not just try changing the bios setting and rebooting.

There are a lot of things I would have expected to be fixed in update 2 that simply were not. Its an improvement over its predecessor but still a bit of a disappointment.

Tried to set the numlock to off but still the same problem. Mind you the connectors are redirected to the RILO card.

I heard the way to sort of fix this is to pull out the ps2 connector and plug it back in.

Would prefer a more reliable workaround or fix to this.

Re: RHEL4 keyboard non responsive after kernel boot ps2 style

I had a similar problem that when the system boots, the keyboard does not work. In my case, it was a problem with the keyboard and the mouse. By stopping and disabling the gpm service, the keyboard worked without problems.

Try starting in single user mode and disable the gpm service.

actually even in single user mode, the keyboard dies out.

I'll try what you said through an ssh connection though and see what happens.

Checked and it appears gpm is already standard disabled on our kickstart build.

Re: RHEL4 keyboard non responsive after kernel boot ps2 style

I must also mention I am also trying to type using the RILO and it's not working. I'm thinking this could be the way the RILO is responding to the RHEL4 on bootup which may be causing this.

Any thoughts?
