Re: Recover a lost password from a RAR file
file was encrypted?
Start guessing? (This can be automated.)
If it were easy to "recover a lost password",
then how useful would the encryption be?

Re: Recover a lost password from a RAR file
there are several method how to crack the lost password, but as somebody mentioned, its very good protected and to make some brute-force dictionary cracking is for me a loosing of time.

Its better to ask the Author of the archive for the password or try all possibles password that you was using.

Re: Recover a lost password from a RAR file
The methods available to recover passwords use either the brute force method
and/or the dictionary based attacks.
* Brute force method
Trying every possible code/combination/password until the right one is found
* Dictionary Based Attack
Trying every word in the dictionary until the right one is found
Some Tools -

Good luck with the password recovery.

Murali

Re: Recover a lost password from a RAR file
Given enough time, crack can guess passwords in a file.
rar however as noted, is pretty good encryption. Any of the cracking methods above could take days or weeks to spit out a password.
Your system will be very slow in that instance.
If you have access to the console, you can boot the system into single user mode and simply reset the annoyingly forgotten password and move on.
It is not supposed to be easy.
