Hi All,
I had run make_tape_recover (entire vg00 and vg01 in two different tapes).
Backup done sucessfull.

My system is making some problem and application is not running.
I have decide to restore system using my backup tapes.

I want to know the full steps to restore my system using tape(1st i will use vg00 backup tape)

I have already check the booting options, but there are no option to Boot from tape.
There are option disks and lan0, lan2 etc.

Please Guide me how to restore.

Thanks in Advance.

Re: Recover system using Bootable Tape.

Hi,
Insert the tape in the drive and reboot the server.
Halt the reboot and enter boot menu

From Menu run the serach command

search.

Note down the device name (p0,p1,p2 etc) for the Sequential device (which is the tape drive)
For example the p1 is the device name for Sequential device
Then boot using the command

boot p1

When prompted for isl option say no and continue

Re: Recover system using Bootable Tape.

Hi,

you could use "search ipl" option to search all possible media for booting.

Re: Recover system using Bootable Tape.

Hi Gokul,

For PARISC server ,follow the steps as suggested by Sagar,

If you are looking for Itanium, direct boot is not possible, you need to follow the below process

Boot from Cd/DVD or from Network
After selecting "Install Hp-Unix" ,
select Media only installation and it will give you option like below
[ ] CD/DVD Installation
[ * ] Boot from CD/DVD, Recover from

Re: Recover system using Bootable Tape.

Yes I have rx2660 using B.11.23

And there are two volume group vg00 and vg01.

vg00 for OS and vg01 for customized filesystem.
