Recovery Ideas?
In the event of a hardware failure, what is the easiest/fastest/most flexible
method(s) available for a recovery?
Tape backup? Disk Mirroring? Other ideas?
Any information will be appreciated.

Re: Recovery Ideas?
There is no single method. Some suggestions:
1. Ignite UX to recover the vg00 if the root drive dies. This is often the
hardest to recover. As for the most part root is fairly stable, you can make
it monthly.
2. Mirror is good, but can be expensive if you have a large amount of storage.
3. Good full backups, with logs on other disk drives for databases and a
strategy to replay the logs.
4. If you want to minimize downtime, serviceguard or a backup/development
system allows you to keep a tested copy of you production system. It does not
require the full size or power of the production system. This also allows you
the option of training, doing data warehousing/reporting without a load on your
production system.
5. A disaster recovery plan.
6. A support contract that meets you servive level requirement.

Re: Recovery Ideas?
You cannot have too many backups. It's possible to have a bad drive that will
eat your backup, or tape malfunction. Of course this only occurs when the heat
is really on, it's the only backup you possess, it's 3:30 AM and your annual
performance review is coming up.
I also print out all volume group information, logical volume group
information, directory information and file away for safekeeping. (SAM makes
this easy) This will allow for a total meltdown and still allow for a complete
restore of everything you backed up in a reasonably quick time.
