RedHat Enterprise ES 4.1 installation on HP Pavilion a705w

Hello,

I tried installing RedHat Enterprise ES 4.1 on HP Pavilion a705w, it shows the following message and reboot,

"Uncompressing Linux... Ok, booting the kernel"

I have the same problem on installiing Fedora Core 3 on the same machine, and "linux acpi=off" solves the problem, but now this setting doesn't work on RedHat Enterprise 4.1, does anyone have an idea to fix it ? Thanks.

Try getting in to BIOS and disable Power Management functions. This turns off ACPI at the BIOS level so the OS never gets to know it.

Your hardware is not Linx friendly.

FC3 has some more advanced, and possibly unstable hardware support in it. Functionally you will find FC3 is very similar to ES 4.1. If my suspicions are correct however, you may find Linux on that hardware unstable for day to day use.

thanks for your reply.

this PC doesn't have ACPI setting in BIOS, i tried changing some settings related to power management in BIOS, problem remains, like what you said, some hardware that RHEL4.1 doens't like.
