No problem at all apart from the fact that some modern hardware such as video cards and such might not be supported.

Re: Redhat 6.2 on Pentium 4

I have a Redhat 6.2 Installation CD, it doesnt work some python error.

even you make the machine up with 2.2.14 kernel, it cant recognize the architecture,
uname -m gives i?86.

thanks

Re: Redhat 6.2 on Pentium 4

Or even redhat 7.3 !
After fighting hard, you'll finammy install rh6.2, but this kernel is weak as far as security is concerned, and it won't be able to use all your hardware capacities...

Re: Redhat 6.2 on Pentium 4

You can do it.

Why is a question that comes to mind.

Red hat 6.2 is not supported. Unless you have a n app that speficially requires it, its like buying a 1986 Toyota. It might run nice, or it might not.

There are security vulnerabilities that can not be dealt with.

Re: Redhat 6.2 on Pentium 4

rh6.2 is sure small and lean and mean, but is also very old. it would not be so bad for the packages, but i can image you could run into problem with a 2.2.14 kernel on a i686 machine!
even though if you could get it running, rh6.2 would probably not meet your expectation since there are a lot of packages missing that are included by default on all distros now.
if you need a lean and mean distro you can give debian a try, else i suggest going with the latest rh or fedora release to save you a lot of problems.
