Running Oracle 8.1.7 and Sybase ASE 12 ???

We are considering running Oracle 8.1.7 and Sybase ASE 12 on a N4000 server with 4 processors... and VA-7100 disk array...

Did anybody has any experience running these two databases on the same box...???

Any comments or suggestions are welcome...

Re: Running Oracle 8.1.7 and Sybase ASE 12 ???

We currently run 14 x Oracle 7.3.4 instances and 1 x Sybase ASE 11.5, on a V2200. We were very concerned about the kernel config.
Our testing proved that sybase memory config was very differently to oracle.
Sybase
402845696 shmem segment for a 500MB database
Oracle
111390720 shmem segment for a 20GB database.

Also have some startup problems with sybase.
Work around is a delayed startup (at job).

Hope it help!

Re: Running Oracle 8.1.7 and Sybase ASE 12 ???

Hi
We're running 8.1.7 and ASE12 on an Sun box (development) running Solaris 8. Initially had some problems due to SHMMAX setting, which when set equal to physical memory, somehow made Sybase take all memory and leave nothing to Oracle.
We set SHMMAX to the value needed by Sybase, and thus ended up with Oracle using several memory segments of SHMMAX size, but that shouldn't be a problem, and wasn't either. Anyway this is a development system and does not have much traffic on it.

Do not know Sybases way of aquiring memory, but it seemed to me that it takes a chunk similar in size to SHMMAX.

*Sybase + Oracle shared memory
set shmsys:shminfo_shmmax=104857600
set shmsys:shminfo_shmmin=1
set shmsys:shminfo_shmmni=100
set shmsys:shminfo_shmseg=10
*Semaphores
set semsys:seminfo_semmni=100
set semsys:seminfo_semmsl=210
set semsys:seminfo_semmns=270
set semsys:seminfo_semopm=100
set semsys:seminfo_semvmx=32767
