SIM Agent 7.90 on ESX 3.02 starts sh zombie processes

Dear forum,

í´ve got issues with the hp systems insight manager agents 7.90 on my ESX servers. As the service console is rhel 3 i posted this question in the lunix category.
After finishing the installation of the agents there come up a lot of zombie processes one after the other by the sh. Below is a line of ps aux :

root 30290 0.0 0.0 0 0 pts/2 Z 13:46 0:00 [sh ]

pstree shows me that the motherprocess is sh.
After stopping the agent with /etc/init.d/hpasm stop
all the processes disappear.

The error is on a bl450c as well as on a dl385 g1.

Any idea what this could be ?
Any information i could post ?

Can you confirm that you loaded the ESX managment agents rather than the RedHat ones...

Hi,

yeah, i installed the ones for esx3, not the ones for linux.
The filename is hpmgmt-7.9.0-vmware3x.tgz, which should be the right one.
It seems that a new defunct process is created every 5 minutes.

I do have the exact same issue on two of our ESX hosts. The hosts (DL385G2)are fresh installed with ESX 3.0.2 Build 61618 and the HP agents with version 7.90.

Also on four older hosts (DL380G4) with ESX 3.0.2 build 57941 we have the same issue.

The zombie process gets startet by cmahostd.

After restarting the hpasm service the zombie processes are gone but appear again.

If I find no solution for this in the next days I will install the older HP Agents again.

There is a discussion about this over in the VMware forums. Basically HP have duplicated the problem and are looking at it internally.

Not that it makes much difference now... We're seeing the problem on bl460c blades with hpmgmt-7.8.0-vmware3x & hpmgmt-7.9.0-vmware3x on ESX-3.0.2.

I opened my ITRC case about v7.9 on 5 Nov 2007.
