SLES10 with HP PSP 8.0 failed installing SP2
We have a Blade bl20p g3 enclosure, with several servers running Linux, SLES10 with SP1 and HP PSP 8.0.
We were trying to install SLES10 SP2 but after the installation, the server do not boot anymore.
Do anyone knows if the Linux SLES10 SP2 is compatible with these blade systems? is there any tip to install the sp2 or directly it is not a good practice?
Thank you very much.
Alvaro.

Re: SLES10 with HP PSP 8.0 failed installing SP2
Shalom Alvaro,
From what I can tell, PSP 8 is not ready for prime time.
I can't install it in Red Hat at all. Wait for the next version, until then 7.91 is pretty stable.

Re: SLES10 with HP PSP 8.0 failed installing SP2
Thank you Steven.
I understand your point.
We are just in the installation process, so, we don├В┬┤t have applications or services, accesed from clients.
But, the installation was very fine, with SP1 and HP PSP 8.0.
The systems looks fine and stable.
But, when we tried to install SP2 on a server, it neve boot again with the HP kernel, then a lot of errors were displayed, and finally, the system can├В┬┤t boot again.
Do you think that installing the servers with SLES 10 SP1 and HP PSP 7.91, after that, we can install SP2 without problems?
Thank you again.
Alvaro.

Re: SLES10 with HP PSP 8.0 failed installing SP2
Hi Alvaro
my observation:
1, installed PSP 8 on SLES 10 SP 1 ... when PSP 8 installed, PSP creates its own initrd(/boot/HP-initrd)file and also creates an entry in /boot/grub/menu.lst
2, installed PSP 8 on SLES 10 SP 2 ... when PSP 8 installed, PSP doesnt creates its own initrd file and neither creates entry in menu.lst
but commands like hp_rescan, lssd, and lssg works fine
You are not able to boot the system because, you installed the PSP 8 on SLES 10 SP 1, then you upgrade SLE to SP2.. it means that your SLE 10 has a new/upgraded kernel.
from memories PSP warns that if you upgrade the kernel PSP doesnt work.
solution:
boot the system from the default kernel/initrd, then remove/delete the entry/lines created by PSP from /boot/grub/menu.lst or you may also delete the HP-initrd entries from menu.lst via YaST by executing the "yast2 bootloader" command.
then check if hp_rescan, lssd, lssg and other commands works properly... if not reinstall the PSP 8.. it will work(but remember it wont create any new entry in the bootloader(menu.lst) and neither creates a new /boot/HP-initrd)
Regards
