SUSE Linux stopped booting

I got a HP 2133 mini-note laptop about a month ago, and now it fails to boot (I turn it and it stays stuck on the screen that says "SUSE Linux")

Does anyone know why this is going on?

Re: SUSE Linux stopped booting

Shalom,

More than likely a disk problem.

The distribution might have some keyboard combinations that can be used to see the console.

Re: SUSE Linux stopped booting

If you have an external DVD you can tell if it is the disk or not. You can try to boot the recovery DVD.

If that works then you can create a "bootable" linux DVD and might be able to use that to save your files before recovering.

Re: SUSE Linux stopped booting

I tried booting from a Ubuntu bootable CD and it sent me to Caldera DR-DOS ... is that supposed to happen?

Re: SUSE Linux stopped booting

I haven't used the Ubuntu bootable CD before. Someone else may be able to say.

Can you see the internal drive with Dr-DOS? At this stage I think you're just trying to see if the OS is corrupted or the internal drive is dead.

I thought this would still be under warranty.

The warranty's still active, but I'm not sure how to use it. Do I just call HP support directly and ask them to pick up the laptop?

Re: SUSE Linux stopped booting

Call or use the web. They'll probably walk you through a process to make sure it is really something that is HW related. Be prepared, they may want to you re-install the OS.

If its HW related, they'll tell you the repair process.
