A site i am working at will be replacing its N4000 servers with new rp4440.
I presume that the migration will go like this?
=> Backup old servers N4000(11.0). OS/FS/DB
=> Export data on the N4000(11.0)
=> Connect SCSI disk system to rp4440
=> Create table space on new DB rp4440(11i).
=> Import the data.
I would like to ask, are there any specific patchs that we will need to apply to
Oracle 8.1.7 and HP-UX 11i ?
Alternativly, could we do the following?
=> Upgrade the N4000 to UX11i
=> Ignite the N4000 and restore it on the rp4440
=> Export the VG on N4000.
=> Reconfigure the disk system to connect to rp4440
=> Import VG on the rp4440
Thanks

SolutionCheck if following suits you:
1. Make ready the rp4440 having the Oracle file system size as big as N4000.
2. Take backup of Oracle file system from N4000 and restore the same on rp4440.
3. For patches check the following link:

Re: Server Migration UX11.00 to UX11iV1 & Oracle 8.1.7
If you want to move to 64 bit oracle, you need to go through a word size conversion after you import the data into the new database.
Proceduer attached.
