Setting up mail(Basics)
I have 3 HP9000 K servers with a D server that is running Omniback. I getting mail messages with the subject Postmaster notify: Cannot send message within 5 days, Name server timeout. Any idea what I missed with my setup?
Thanks

Re: Setting up mail(Basics)
The message means that sendmail cannot resolve the IP address of your mail relay.
Resolution depends on whether or not you are using DNS.
I suggest that you search this forum (top left hand corner SEARCH link, tick Community Forums) for 'sendmail and DNS'. There are several threads that are relevant to your question.
Regards,
John

Re: Setting up mail(Basics)
First question would be are the systems using DNS? Is the /etc/resolv.conf file setup?
They are not able to find a name server. Check the /etc/nsswitch.conf file and see if you are looking at FILES first or DNS. If looking at files, are the systems in the hosts file? If looking at DNS, is thje host in the DNS database?

Re: Setting up mail(Basics)
Check /etc/mail/aliases to see if Local aliases host has been set and then run newaliases
