Standby Server

Hi,
Well I am using Redhat Linux 5.2 (Apollo),
How can i create an exact replica of that
server so that if my current system fails
at any give point of time i just need to
put the new server online.

How can i create Bare Metal CD's so in case
of disaster i can use those CD to bring the
server back to life.

Can the disk capacity and other devices of
the standby system be different from the
original one ?

I need to do this as am expecting a a
disaster from my older box.

Thanks,
Amit.

Re: Standby Server

The easiest would be to temporarily turn that disk into a shadow/mirror set and then use that to build the new server.

Note: You should try to get the new server up before the old one crashes.... ;-)

Re: Standby Server

You may try building a similar box and re-creating all partitions as in the old box. You can think of raiding your partitions (RAID1) and then using some HA service to hook up the machines. You should in the meantime take backups of your present disk on tapes/cdrs. Best of Luck....
