Wish your kernel was in such good shape.
Use up2date to upgrade to the latest stable kernel in the 2.4.x series. pick one with an even numbered last digit. Only use the 2.6.x kernel if the documents require it.

Use the Suse update utility to get the latest kernel. The device will have to be disconnected to boot the system. If you have no other disk, you need a newer Suse or a different distribution of Linux.
Check the documentation to see if you missed a step.

Re: SuSE Linux 9.0 on aLH4 with netraid 4m
thanks for your answer!
I think, I need no newer Distribution. I need a older one. The LH4 Server is a 6 years old server. If I install the SuSE Linux 7.3 there is no problem. But I can't update from 7.3 to 9.0. And a fresh installation from 9.0 brings the problem. In the time of the installation I can use and change the partitions and the software is copied to the disk. But after the reboot to finish the installation, I get the kernel panic.
