Suggested Kernel Parameters for Sybase ASE 11.9.2 on HPUX9000 N /L class Servers.

Hi there.

We are to upgrade shortly to HP-UX 11. What should be the values for the following?
shmmax
shmni
shmseg
nfile
nflocks

Hi,

Leaving all except shmmax to default should be fine. Having said that please be aware the default value of these kernel parameter are higher in HPUX 11 than HPUX 10.x.

My L1000 w/1G RAM for example,

shmni=200
shmseg=120
nfile=910
nflocks=200

For shmmax, this is the most important kernel parameter which govern the amount of lockable memory Sybase could get, just set that to same size (or slightly larger) as/than your physical memory. If my information is still correct (I believe so), Sybase could use as much as 75% of the physical memory that is available, and that the shmmax parameter is the parameter that determine whether Sybase could reach that 75% mark. So make sure you tweak this one correctly.
