The server will not be for production and will have minimal users and/or load. It's mainly for testing TCB, SSH, and possibly some X Window stuff.
Thanks,
Gary

SolutionExcluding that, I would look for L3000 and N-Class boxes to get you a feel for the OS and still be able to get the capabilities to use the box a bit later.

http://www.hp.com/products1/servers/HP9000_family_overview.html
I have a workstation a B2600 for this sort of thing which we bought from HP on their Renew program, which is second hand refurbished stuff.
If you are looking for older stuff that the current range the list of discountinued items http://www.hp.com/products1/servers/9000_discontinued.html
may be of interest.

Re: Suggested hardware for HP-UX 11 and later
Some general information.
I am under the impression that HP-UX 11i v3, due this year is the last PA-RISC release.
If your future direction in production is Integrity Itanium 2 servers, then your spare should be the same class.
To accurately answer your question,I'd need to know what you have now.
If you plan PA-RISC for a while, then the rp3440 servers are very good for this task.

Re: Suggested hardware for HP-UX 11 and later
SEP, we don't have any production machines. I work in Tech Support for a small software company so the machines don't have to necessarily be high end or matching. They're only used for testing software issues. I just need to make sure it'll do TCB. In fact, now that I think about it, getting something diverse would be a plus and could be a selling point, but I don't know for sure what we already have. I'll do some more reading on the models previously mentioned and see if I can recognize something on ebay or try the refurb option.
