Re: Surestore 818 device not detected

Ok. Detected where? In the SCSI BIOS at startup? Or in the boot-up sequence?

If you could give us some details, like SCSI controller, Linux distribution, and how the 818 is connected, we could give you a few more details on where to look.

Assuming it's all plugged in and working, you should see an entry in /proc/scsi/scsi mentioning the auto-changer.

You'll need a tool similar to 'mtx' (http://mtx.badtux.net/) to do the actual changing of tapes, otherwise it should operate like a normal tape.

Re: Surestore 818 device not detected

ok..here it goes..when connecting the device and recycling systems power ..during the BIOS boot up the connected device seems to be taking the place that was once occupied by a SCSI drive. When system boots up completely the mirrored drive is marked offline..[SHARING SCSI IDs]. Everything was working for a while don't know what changed.I realize that there is obviously an ID conflict..

Re: Surestore 818 device not detected

to gather more information, look in dmesg for the info about scsi.

If you have this try the following command

# cdrecord -scandisk

also at boot after bios/mem-dev messages you usualy have a chance to type "usualy ctrl c, but this could be different for your scsi card version" to go into the scsi card setup from there you can see the various devices and there position on the scsi bus... this should correspont to what dmesg and cdrecord -scanbus tell you.

post short version of above output if you need more help...

Re: Surestore 818 device not detected

Start by changing the ID of the tape changer!

This is paramount!

Until you do this, it will not operate as expected!

Once you've got the 818 on it's own ID, cycle the power, and make sure it shows up as it's self.

After that, it should all 'just work'.
