Surestore T20 problem on Linux

Hi there,

I have a problem with a Surestore T20 in a Netserver E60 with Red Hat 7.3. It's not working.....

When there is no tape inside and I give the command 'mt status' is says :
SCSI 2 tape drive:
File number=-1, block number=-1, partition=0.
Tape block size 0 bytes. Density code 0x0 (default).
Soft error count since last status=0
General status bits on (50000):
DR_OPEN IM_REP_EN

When I insert a tape it starts spooling and when it is finished with that the status command says :
SCSI 2 tape drive:
File number=-1, block number=-1, partition=0.
Tape block size 0 bytes. Density code 0x0 (default).
Soft error count since last status=0
General status bits on (10000):
IM_REP_EN

When I use the 'mt tell' command it says:
mt: The device is offline (not powered on, no tape ?)

The "st" module is loaded.

What can I do to make this unit working because I wanna make some backups.

Re: Surestore T20 problem on Linux

Hello,

I can only give you partial answers, because I don't know anything about HP SureStore T20 tape drives.

"the device is offline" means "no media inserted".

It seems that the mag tape media is not properly detected.

At this point, I have no further idea on how to resolve your pb.

Good luck.
