Swap CD-burner for CD-ROM drive in C3600
I thought I would be clever and use the IDE-SCSI builtin interface of the C3600 workstations to make a CD burner and later a DVD burner system from a system with a CD-ROM drive.
After replacing the original IDE CD-ROM drive with a Plextor internal E-IDE (ATAPI) CD-RW/DVD-ROM, the system recognizes the new drive from the firmware INFO SYSTEMCONFIG report. However, during bootup the system panics and crashes. Replacing the original CD-ROM drive make all well.
The jumpers on the Plextor unit were set to be the same as those of the CD-ROM drive unit removed.
Has anyone that has tried this had a more successful result?
Is the workstation's built in IDE-SCSI interface capable of supporting a R/W CD/DVD device?
Would there be any firmware or patches that would address this?
Any other observations or suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Dave

Re: Swap CD-burner for CD-ROM drive in C3600
I'm afraid you won't be able to get the right driver for the Plextor.
Maybe should you post this on the HPUX forum, but devices supported need to have correct driver and voltage specs. Read :
http://www.hp.com/workstations/risc/standard/cclass/c3600/faqs.html
for faqs
and
http://www.hp.com/workstations/risc/standard/cclass/c3600/accessories.html
for compatible accessories.

Try the external Plextor PX-W1210TSE. If you have the right scsi port you are all set. As you know they shipped drivers for HP-UX.

Duh.
Another case of me posting useless HP-UX info in a Linux thread.
Please zero point both my posts.
