how do i get my 11.23 v2 to run in 32 bit mode?

You don't. There is no way to turn the whole OS from 64-bit to 32-bit.

11.23 should be able to run 32-bit executables just fine though.

It should already be able to support PA-RISC applications. The Itanium CPUs have a built-in emulator (called Aries, I believe) that allows you to run PA-RISC applications on the Itanium hardware.

So your 32-bit or 64-bit PA-RISC applications **SHOULD** run on the Itanium box.

Patrick's completely right. Aries on 11i v1.6 or 11i v2 is there to allow PA binaries to run on Itanium. All HP-UX versions after 11i v1.5 (11.20) only support running the kernel as 64-bits.
