I am using Proliant Server DL380 with RHES 3 .Now I have a tape drive and attached with server. Bios of the system successfully detect the tape but tape is not functional in OS. The out put of cat /proc/scsi/scsi is show noting.I was face same problem with RHES 4 but the issue was resoled by switch SCSI ID 1. The model of tape is DDS 4 connected with SCSI cable. Can any body guide me what I need to do. Thanks in advance.

Re: Tape Drive not detect
The first thing I'd try is to set the scsi id of the dds4 drive to 1. The scsi card uses zero.

Re: Tape Drive not detect
Can you confirm a few things...
What generation DL380 are you using ?
To which connector is the tape drive connected ?
Is SCSI backplane in simplex or duplex mode ?
Cheers,
Rob

Re: Tape Drive not detect
The Generation of DL380 is G4
65 pins Cable Connector is use to connect the tape with server built-in SCSI card
SCSI backplane in simplex mode

SolutionThe DL380 G4 doesn't have a built in SCSI card, it has a built in SmartArray controller...
In simplex mode, the external connector is port 1, and the internal connector (going to the hard drives) is port 2.
It might be that the cciss driver for the SmartArray controller doesn't like the tape drive for some reason... You could try updating it with this:

That might help...
