Tape error: Unexpected media removal detected

Three sites, three cities. All using C4425 tapes, All experiencing varied tape
backup failures. Seems to be related to invalid media error messages. User gets
"unexpected media removal detected" on multiple tapes. Tapes will work okay
later. All have HP tape backup 4/8 gb. Customers replace media with new media
and have same or slightly different tape backup failures. Is there a new
release of tape backup software? Is there a universal failure in the read/write
heads? Customers looking for an answer asap.

Same problem: "unexpected media removal detected" Ref 10-14-23-00-3A00 as well
as "defective or damaged area was detected" Ref 03-03-23-01-1502. These
messages come up even when using new tapes. Is the drive dead?

I spoke to the HP support centre and they advised me to upgrade the firmware on the tape drive which I did (V2.05 to V2.08). The system is now working correctly. Hope this helps you!
