Today's Easy Points: Reading Windows RTF Format on HPUX?

Good Day, Gurus,

To use a USAn reference, I'm about "Ivory Snow Sure - 99 44/100%" that the answer is either "No" or "Yes, with the use of this open-source software", but I'm going to ask it anyway:

Is there any supported method for reading Windows-produced RTF (Rich Text Format) files directly, either via commands or under any programming language, on HPUX?

I started with this query about WinZIP files - http://forums13.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=1311500 - and am now ready to actually start *using* the files I've retrieved from the WinZIP archives. Unfortunately, and unsurprisingly, most of the files inside the archive are themselves in special Windoze formats. Files which I need to be able to eventually read using Micro Focus COBOL code, but obviouisly need to de-Window-ize beforehand.

Does anyone have anything to offer, other tham sympathy and/or empathy? :-/

Thanks!

Try unRTF at http://www.gnu.org/software/unrtf/unrtf.html

Most recent release is 0.21 from Jan 20, 2009. this will convert RTF to HTML, LaTeX, PostScript or troff macros.

If you don't want to build it yourself, there is an older (binary) version (0.20.5) at the HP-UX porting archive - http://gatekeep.cs.utah.edu

Shalom,

These files are mostly ascii text, but I assume that is not good enough for you.

My suggestion would be to compile openoffice on HP-UX. It can read all microsoft format files on HP-UX.

Not easy work, but it should be possible.

Greg and SEP - thank you!

There's more "politics" going on than I can really discuss publicly, but your answers were what I was expecting.

Again - thanks!!!
