Triple booting heaven!!---->I NEED HELP

I currently have a PC with a 30gb and 40gb HD

On the 1st HD I have my crappy M$ stuff and on my 2nd HD I have music and data.
I currently also have Linux Mandrake 9.0 on this 2nd HD. But I intend to delete its partition and install Sun Solaris 9 and then Red Hat Linux 8 on the 2nd HD as I have some free space on this drive

I will give them about 2.5Gb each as I will just be messing around with them???

I have been told there are possible pitfalls in attempting to triple boot? Does anyone know what they are?

I have also been told that if I want to do this I MUST install 1.WinXP 1st 2. Solaris 3. Linux unless I want my valiant efforts to fail.

So basically is there anything else I need to look out for?

Being a novice mind???.!! Is anybody else currently triple booting?

Thanks for your help

Re: Triple booting heaven!!---->I NEED HELP

The steps shown are probably the easiest.

You'll just have to make sure you take note which partitions have what OS on them.

One note however: RH8 (full install) takes up roughtly 5GB of space. Allow atleast that.

Re: Triple booting heaven!!---->I NEED HELP

Can't I do a minimum install or similar or RH Linux?

5gb is too much!

Umm, yea, but what are you gonna do with it?

I thought you wanted to 'play'. Must have toys to 'play'.

Re: Triple booting heaven!!---->I NEED HELP

hi
once i had tried this and was facing problems because the Solaris Partition and the Linux Swap partion are identified by the same no( i guess 82). so there used to be a clash. i couldnt fix this but one suggestion was to have two hard disks and then use one for solaris and linux for the other.

have also seen a solaris+windows+linux howto but couldnt locate it now. will post the same if i find it.

good luck.

Re: Triple booting heaven!!---->I NEED HELP

I would suggest you keep linux and Solaris x86 on seperate disks, since the Solaris x86 file system will appear as swap to linux.

Here's an excellent site for multibooting Solaris and other OSes:
http://multiboot.solaris-x86.org/

Good luck,
