Trouble with Linux 6.0 and Video Card
Hello all, can anyone assist me with getting Linux 6.0 loaded on my HP
Pavillion n3210 Notebook. I've actually loaded it but I can't get X-windows to
come up because my video card (trident micro cyberblade i7
4mb) isn't listed in the default selections in the menu. I've tried some of the
generics with no luck.
I'm very new to Linux (as you probable can tell).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Trouble with Linux 6.0 and Video Card
Garry,
You need to upgrade to XFree release 3.3.4, or greater, which adds support
for the Cyberblade chips.

Re: Trouble with Linux 6.0 and Video Card
I have gotten my n3210 running
X-windows under Mandrake installation. To get it running I had to manually "tweak" the file:
/etc/X11/XF86Config
First as already mentioned you should get the latest XFree distribution, I think it's 4.2. For
details of the config file execute
> man XF86Config
Be sure to set SWcursor to on.
Be sure to set pixel depth to 16 bits.
Be sure to set screen to 800x600
You'll also want to specify generic LCD monitor.
Attached is a bare bones config file
which works on my machine. Rename your old one as ***.saved
And replace with this one. It should work.
Regards,
James
