Universe 9.6

Has anyone used the online file resize facility in Universe 9.6, does it work better than 9.4 ??
We are about to upgrade for this facility only or should we wait and go to Universe 10 instead ??

Re: Universe 9.6

Lee,

I can't answer your question, but I find it incredible that people are still using Pick (aka Informix's UniVerse - now IBM's). I programmed in Pick from '87 to '96. I'm stunned!

I say go for the upgrade!

Re: Universe 9.6

Hi Harry

Universe is a very stable database providing that the files are well maintained (resize).

We run 3 instances side by side with interconnectivity and it just keeps going, ???like the Bunny???.

Re: Universe 9.6

Paula,

I used to write and install Banking applications in Pick. I also used to work for Perrier, that was also a Pick (UniVerse) shop. I enjoyed it because it allowed us to rapidly deploy applications.

Paula, what kind of business is your company in?

Harry

Travel,

Flight only with car hire and insurance.

Normally 600 concurrent telnet users and circa 14,000 x25 connections per day.

Running 9.4.1.1.I on HP-UX 11.00 - 4 way N class.

Runs well although if files become badly sized disk IO / wait can be horrific.

Goto stay on top of it.

That's Great! If you ever need a programmer/sys admin, let me know :-) But I'm not to sure I could get used to drinking warm beer....

Re: Universe 9.6

Lee,

Another former Pick/Universe programmer here. Whatever you do, DO NOT use the "in place" option on the resize. If your system goes down or you have other issues, you could lose the file that way. Make sure you have a good back-up first, too.

Mark Greene,

I started on Ultimate R83 Pick on Honeywell DPS6's and DEC VLSI's - ouch!
