Update HP-UX operating sys for new release.

Hello,

I holds several HP-UX machines and I would like to know whether I can update the OS with the last releases.

If so, where and how?

Re: Update HP-UX operating sys for new release.

Hi,
11.11 can't go directly to 11.31. You need to upgrade to hpux 11.23 and then go from 11.23 to 11.31.

You also need to check that your server is supported to run on 11.23 / 11.31. Might be good to check the Release notes as well as the Installation and update guide for the given OS release.

Do you have the DVD's for the new OS already? If yes, then there's a tool called update-ux, which is used to upgrade OS release to higher (man update-ux) . If not yet, you should contact your HP representative to obtain them.

C8000? This is a workstation, and HP-UX 11.11 is the last version that officially supports workstations with PA-RISC CPUs.

11.23 and newer releases are for server models only.

HP's support for the C8000 workstation will end in December 2012:

The nearest equivalent would be the rx2660 and rx2800 servers: those are also available in pedestal-mounted "office friendly" configurations (=not so loud as the basic rack-mount versions).

Yes 11.11 is the last "officially" supported version of HP-UX for workstations like the C8000.

You can with a bit of mucking around get 11.23 to install on the C8000, but if you have a grpahical console for it, that won't work with 11.23 (and it's unsupported anyway).

11.31? No chance...
