Upgrade Oracle and New Server Hardware

I currently run Oracle 8.0 on a K580 with 3 Processors, 4 GB RAM, and run an average LOAD of 3.1 per processor.

I have seen the comparison sheets for the N-Class with 8500 440MHZ and 8600 550 MHZ processors.

Can anyone give me first hand experience with eitherN-Class configuration as compared to the K580?

Thanks,

I don't think you set your kernel parameters very well. You should have up to 3.1 load on a processor. Check this kernel configuration:

Re: Upgrade Oracle and New Server Hardware

Kernel settings were per HP Critical Ssytems Business Support Center.
I have checked the settings with both Oracle and HP BSC.
I will revisit the kernel.
I have 59 18 GB disks, 250 users, and teo
Oracle databases. The LOAD used to be 5 and disk thrashing was corrected.
I will put my bruised ego aside and recheck my settings.
