Use archive log in Oracle 8.1.6 on HP-Ux11.00??

Hi all!

I have problem with the archive log in oracle, I have run the commands that oracle specifies to enable it. ALTER...
I tries to enable it in the initSID.ora file to activate auto start of it...

But when I tries to start the db again then I only get an error message "ORA-00439" and the db wont start, and when I change back it works again.

It is no problems to start archive log manually after the startup of the db...

Would be greatful if anyone nows a solution to the problem...

export ORACLE_SID=???
??? database name

$svrmgrl
connect internal
svrmgr>startup mount

shutdown the database cleanly using
shutdown
or
shutdown immediate
and use startup mount do not open the database

now
svrmgr>
alter database archivelog

svrmgr>alter database open

No, doesn't work, we tried that already and then we get the error message ORA-00439.

Doc ID: Note:118054.1
Subject: ORA-00439 TURNING ON ARCHIVING
Type: PROBLEM
Status: PUBLISHED
Content Type: TEXT/PLAIN
Creation Date: 22-AUG-2000
Last Revision Date: 10-APR-2001

Problem Description: ==================== When switching the database to Archive Log Mode, you receive error: ORA-00439: feature not enabled: %s Cause: The specified feature is not enabled. Action: Do not attempt to use this feature. This occurs at at startup mount. Solution Description: ===================== 1. Open your init.ora file in the $ORACLE_HOME/dbs directory (on Unix machines) or in the %ORACLE_HOME%\database directory (on Windows machines.) 2. Check the parameter 'log_archive_dest_1' You probably see syntax similar to the following: log_archive_dest_1 = '/softs/oracle/8.1.6/admin/oracle/arch/archlog' Change this line to: log_archive_dest = '/softs/oracle/8.1.6/admin/oracle/arch/archlog' - OR - If you want to use the capability of multiple archive destinations, change the parameter to log_archive_dest_. For example, log_archive_dest_1 = "location=/u02/product/8.1.6/admin/V816/arch" Explanation: ============ The syntax of the 'log_archive_dest' and the 'log_archive_dest_' parameters differ. If you are not using multiple locations for archiving then you should only have log_archive_dest set in the init.ora file.
