Using remsh between two servers

I am experience a very puzzling situation. We have two servers one with 11.00 and one with 10.20. If I run remsh from the 11.00 server to the 10.20 server the command is run perfectly fine. If I run a remsh form the 10.20 server to the 11.00 server I get the error message "rcmd: primary connection shut down". I have checked the syslog.log and this has the entry "inetd[pid]: execv /usr/lbin/remshd: Permission denied".
Both servers have equivalent .rhost and /etc/hosts.equiv entries. As far as I can see all the correct daemons are running.
Assistance would be much appreciated as I would like to keep the hair that I have left on my head.

Many thanks, Graeme.

Re: Using remsh between two servers

Hi Graeme,

can you check the permissions of /usr/lbin/remshd on the 11.00 box? They should be -r-xr--r-- and owned by bin, group bin.

T G.

Can you put another post up so I can assign you with the right number of points. It was down to the fact that no execute permission was on for the owner of remshd. You pointed me in the right direction, you deserve 10 points as well.
Many thanks, Graeme.
