Kind of an extension of pgupta101 thread.. I have a RX8640 running two N-pars, each N-par has 16-cores w/ 128GB memory and 2 x 300GB internal drives. My question is, what is the maximum amount of V-pars I can do on this server?
Thanks
Jesse

Re: V-Par on an Itanium RX8640 Server
Please confirm you are talking about legacy vpar and not HPVM vpars.
If legacy vpars, you could have as many vpars as the resources are there.
The hardware is allocated on lba level for vpars. From ioscan, try to get lba allocation in such a way that you can allocate at least one lan card, one FC/scsi card, one cpu, min memory etc to a vpar.
This would help to identify how many vpars can be created.

Re: V-Par on an Itanium RX8640 Server
on a post from way back in 2010, someone said 8 x v-pars per n-par so I'm assuming that I can get 16 x v-pars on this box.
HP Itanium RX8640 Server - configured with:
16 x Dual-core 1.6GHz CPUs / (32-cores)
4 x Processor/memory cell board
2 x Core I/O
32 x 8GB Memory Kits (256GB total)
4 x 300GB Ultra320 10k disk drives
1 x DVD-ROM drive
1 x Rack kit
1 x HP power distribution unit: L6-30P Plug, 30 Amp, 200-240V
HP-UX 11i v3 Data Center OE DC-OE

Re: V-Par on an Itanium RX8640 Server
You might be able to. But need to check the full ioscan and try to allocate different lbas for each vpar in such a way that you have at least one disk/fc , one lan and cpus/memory for each 16 vpars.

SolutionHi Jesse,
If you are asking about vPars v5.x then this is the documented maximum limit (see below), but as mentioned previously, the actual limit will depend on the number of IO cards you have in the server, as each vPar requires at least 1c, 1.5GB RAM (v3), 1 path to network and 1 path to storage.
rp8420, rp8440, rx8620, rx8640
8 virtual partitions per nPartition, 16 total per system with no SEU and 32 total per system with SEU. This is a 4-cell system.
