Vmware with Win98 host OS and no sound?
Anybody using VMWare out there?
I've had a nagging problem for a while. I have tried everything I can think of to get the sound in Win98 hosted in VMWare on a RedHat 7.1 box to work.
My sound works normally for everything else (using esd and oss sound drivers). Desktop sound works fine, sound apps like xmms work fine. I've followed VMWare's instructions for starting up vmware with esd (esddsp vmware .. blah blah) to no avail.
I think the problem is in Win98 (no suprise there). If I remove the drivers from the hardware list and reboot, it does not automatically find the sound card, which should probe as a SB16 compatible. I can go through the hardware wizard (which doesn't find the device either) and manually add the driver per the VMWare instructions and everything seems fine, but Win98 won't utter a single sound from within vmware.
It doesn't show any errors either. Playing sound from within Win98 doesn't give any problems, but it doesn't give any sound either.
Things I can try?
