Weird keyboard leds and mouse ML9.1 on E500
With Mandrake 9.0 installed, my Compaq Armada E500 laptop was working fine. But with 9.1 switching from text screen to graphics screen has some weird behavior. All three keyboard leds begin blinking with a 2 seconds interval. After a indefinite time ( 3 seconds to 60 seconds) either X starts with mouse (touchpad or external mouse) or with no mouse. This blinking happens also when switching from text console to graphics screen and when shutting down. Here is related log lines, when no mouse. With kdm. The lines are 3th and 4th.
Aug 22 09:14:52 gezgin netconf: Checking kernel configuration
Aug 22 09:14:52 gezgin linuxconf: Running Linuxconf hooks: succeeded
Aug 22 09:15:38 gezgin kdm[1057]: Abnormal helper termination, code 1, signal 0
Aug 22 09:15:38 gezgin kdm[1057]: fatal IO error 32 (Broken pipe)
Aug 22 09:15:38 gezgin shutdown: shutting down for system halt
With mdkkdm. Line is 3th.
Jul 8 13:55:38 localhost netconf: Checking kernel configuration
Jul 8 13:55:38 localhost linuxconf: Running Linuxconf hooks: succeeded
Jul 8 13:56:26 localhost mdkkdm[1025]: fatal IO error 32 (Broken pipe)
Jul 8 13:56:26 localhost shutdown: shutting down for system halt
After wakeup from suspend graphics screen was too bad.
When I get no mouse, I have to shutdown and start again. I installed XFree86-server-4.3-6.1mdk.i586.rpm. This solved only wakeap from suspend's bad screen problem.
mdkkdm, kdm, gdm have all the same weird behavior. Can I do anything? I'm waiting for Mandrake 9.2, wondering if this will solve the problem. By the way, this is not Mandrake 9.1 specific problem. RedHat 9 has same thing (I did not try).
The specs of my Compaq Armada E500:
PIII-650, BX Chipset, 192 MB ram, 12 GB IBM hdd, 14.1" display, 8xDVD drive,
??nter 10/100 Ethernet with Lucent minipci modem, Ati Rage Mobility P/M AGP 2X graphics, synaptics touchpad.
(Sorry for my English)

Re: Weird keyboard leds and mouse ML9.1 on E500
It worked.
It stopped working.
This happened to me with Red Hat once. They keyboard had gotten flooded with water(wife upstairs let the kids help clean the floor above).
Try simply replacing the keyboard and see what happens.
