What are the advantages of HPUX-64bit over HPUX-32bit?

I'm in a phase of upgrading my HPUX ver from 10.2 to 11.00 so i would loke to know:

1. Difference between HPUX 10.20 & HPUX 11.00 & HPUX 11i

Doing the same exercise at the moment.

HP-UX 11i is basically the latest version of 11.00 and is also known as 11.11. so there is no real reason to go to 11.00 in preference to 11i. However having said that if you are runinng D class machines for instance EISA cards that work under 11.00 will probably not work under 11i. There are also apparently some issues with certain FC cards on K series.

There are too many improvements over 10.20 to list in a forum so you really need to look at the release notes as already suggested but I would also recommend the HP-UX 11i hands on with HP-UX 1i workshop training course as it gave me a lot of handy advice for this exercise.

Hi,

If you're using databases such as Oracle you can address more memory.
In the case of Oracle on HPUX 32bits version , your SGA is limited to 1.75Gb.
On HPUX 64 bits you don't have this restriction (with Oracle 64bit of course).

The major advantage of the 11.x versions is that they will continue to be supported for quite some time, unlike 10.20. I wouldn't even consider 10.20 at this point.

Ok heres two that were relevent to me -

VXVM - Veritas Volume manager replaces LVM. One advantage of this is that with Fibre setups you can send I/O down both the main and alternate device paths at the same time thus increasing performance.

JAVA 2 - Java 2 is NOT supported or available for 10.20 much to our programming teams current annoyance.

Following on from Petes comments HP-UX end of support date is June 2003 - The last patch bundle ever for 10.20 was released for december 2001 so by my way of thinking we should really have 10.20 off of our machines by the end of this year.
