What is a HP-UX S700 IA syatem?

Hi All

Does anyone know what is a HP-UX S700 IA system.
and how to check whether the machine you are working on is similar.
I have never seer and/heard this model number before.
model command on IA machine show something like "ia64 hp server rx1620" and on PA it shows "9000/800/rp3410" but I have never seen "S700" or "S800"

S700 and S800 are somewhat old designations for HP PA-RISC workstations and servers, respectively.

For HP-UX 10.20 and older there were different releases of HP-UX depending on your platform, S700 (Workstations) or S800 (Server).

You will still see the S700/S800 designation on a lot of patches, but for HP-UX 11.0 and newer the designation is relatively meaningless.

On some machines, if you do a 'model' command you could still see something like "9000/800/rp5470" or "9000/700/C3000".

No - this has no meaning for Integrity servers.

*All* current PA-RISC servers would fall under the classification S800 if it were still of any significance... really you shouldn't worry about this at all unless you have some old HP-UX workstations kicking around.

hi,

while 700 and 800's are the older naming convention, some people still regard workstations as 700 series and servers as 800 series.

these came from the 712/715/725 names and 827/847 type names of systems.

can itanium be 700's, well not really but hp did do an itanium workstation which ran hpux

ok, all doubts cleared, the machine is a S700 workstation ( model zx2000 )

I have found one such machine in our lab,
faced some issue in booting it, pulling out and re-inserting the power cable did the magic. :-)
Now I have to look for 11.23 Sep04 Media and install it.

Are you sure that a zx2000 is supoprted for HP-UX 11.23 ? I don't think so ...

Well... Its installing ..I didn't face any issues,,,lets see how it goes
