What is the NMID of a lan card?

It is possible to change the NMID of a card? I think that no, but how the system assigns the NMID to a card? it has no relation with the card instance.
Thanks in advance

Re: What is the NMID of a lan card?

Hi,

Network Management ID is reported by programs like 'lanscan' and is used to address the right card with 'lanadmin'.

It's assigned sequentially by the system.

Re: What is the NMID of a lan card?

Hi,

Do an online check of lanscan documentations. (man lanscan or lanadmin)
NMID is the Network Management ID(Identification number assigned to the card through lanadmin or when configuring a network card through /etc/rc.config.d/netconf file.
