I have linux 6.2 on HP VL5/200MMX.
It doesn't have gdm(/etc/X11/gdm) How do I add that?

If you have the installation cd set, the Gnome packages are available there. mount the cdrom
and navigate to the packages
# mount /mnt/cdrom
# cd /mnt/cdrom/RedHat/RPMS
use rpm -ivh {package name} to install.
Depending on how much configuration time you've already put into your RH 6.2 system, and how critical it is to your operation, it might just be easier to rerun the installation program and install the default workstation/server packages from scratch.

/etc/X11/gdm is the Gnome Desktop Environment.
Since you are many versions behind the current release versions of the most popular Linuxes, you have two choices.
1. Install Gnome from the Source and compile it for use see http;//www.gnome.org
2. You could select to Update your existing environment to a more current release. Linux Mandrake recently released 8.0 in distribution. You can download the bits (from any Linux Distributor), or purhase a cd for under $50.00 US.
