X11 on laptop (pavilion dv8130us)

Hey;

I have a new dv8130us. I got linux loaded and running. X11 configuration seems to be a bit of an issue. The Radeon graphics card seems to be configured correctly; however, I can't seem to convince the monitor to go any higher than 1024x768. In order to configure the custom parameters, I need the horizontal and verticle sync ranges.

Would anyone know where I can find that information? Docs w/laptop don't appear to have it; google searches so far have been fruitless.

Thanks for any information/tips/suggestions.

Shalom Doug,

You are pretty lucky with that chip set to get it to go 1024 by 768.

If generic LCD won't let you go higher, you are done without a driver from the manufacturer.

You can download linux driver for your laptop from below URL and install it using sh command

# sh ati-driver-installer-x.xx.xx-i386.run
and follow the installation process.

good luck.

Re: X11 on laptop (pavilion dv8130us)

Hey, all;

Thanks for the replies. I had a driver for the video card; it was the monitor that I couldn't quite get set correctly. I ended up using Fedora core 5 because mandriva was having issues with the dvd writer. Once FC5 was intalled, Xorg -configure worked like a champ to get the screen resoluton where it should be.

I appreciate all the hints/tips/suggestions.
