can I setup Windows Active Directory without ANY WIN2000 DNS server ?
for WINDOWS AD I'd like to use 2 internal linux DNS server BIND 9.2.2

Solutioni do not see why not.
there is no specified informaton from microsoft which says that the Active Directory must co-exist with a DNS on the same box (if that is what u r asking?).

Problem is you may have to convince the MS admins. They are taught during Windows courses that you must use Windows DNS and may believe MS won't support such a configuration.

I have a college who claims his active directory runs better from bind9 then it did from MS-DNS
