Hallo to all
I am using /usr/dt/bin/dtmail at 10.20 and want to send mails from my_host to a remote_host at the same office (next desk).
I have all remote access to the remote_host such as rlogin, remsh etc.
Only an email to myself@remot_host is never passed. The only success I ever had was to send an mail to myself@localhost :-(
We don't use DNS but /etc/hosts !
Something must be missing anywhere.
How can I get the email communication to work ?
Thanks for any good ideas

Re: can only email to myself@localhost !
Hi Klaus:
You need to edit the file /etc/mail/sendmail.cf. Look for the word "Smart". You will need to define a Smart Relay host. The IP address of that host will need to be in your /etc/hosts file. There will probably be some more stuff you need to do like edit Dj$w macro to define your domain name but define the smart relay first and then stop/start sendmail. The error messages will generally point you in the right direction but I warn you that sendmail can be tricky.

If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Solution
This hopefully would help you with sendmail.cf configuration.
