also, try forward and reverse lookup by IP address and name. Do this on host1, host2 and your PC.
I suspect that there might be an IP issue somewhere, like the PC using DNS while host1 and host2 use host files.
If that is the case, i suspect that host2 isn't in the DNS server, or if it is, has a different address. Another possiblity would be differing addresses for the same name, or differing names for the same IP

Please provide the ipaddress of host1 ,host2 and your PC.
Also provide
#netstat -nr
from host1 and host2.

What was the error message?
ALWAYS use the IP address first. If that works, then you'll have to sort out hostname resolution with NIS, DNS and hosts file. PCs are a real pain to configure because they depend on a WINS or DNS server which is often out of date. If the IP address works, then contact your network administrator to fix your WINS or DNS servers.
