cd-rw drive no longer reads anything

i'm running windows xp.

After uninstalling Nero, my cd-rw drive no longer recognizes any media what-so-ever. It will flash green when a disc is put in, but it always ends up saying there is no media in the drive. re-installing nero, the cd-rw drive, and making sure the nero software and the cd drivers are the latest has not fixed the problem

What type and model CD writer do you have, what version of Nero, and what version of the OS (and patches)?

Re: cd-rw drive no longer reads anything

well, the cd-rw isn't listed on nero's list, but the nero software came with the cd-rw drive. it is an I/O magic 40x12x48. the nero software i was using was 5.5.7, which was what the cd installed. after the problem i tried re-installation and also upgrading to the 5.5.9 nero version off the web. i'm using windows xp pro, and window's update says i have all the updates.

Re: cd-rw drive no longer reads anything

The IO magic unit is a generic. You can usually find them under "other".

CDRW4048E IDE/ATAPI 40x12x48x x x x 5.5.8.0

Which shows that support was added under version 5.5.8.0

This REALLY sounds like you have an XP incompatible driver stuck in place. I'll keep looking, but you might want to completly uninstall Nero, including any "shared" or "common" files, then remove the Nero folder from the "Program Files" folder.

Reboot, and see if the functionality returns.
