change host id on HP-UX for license server

Hello Gurus,

we have an old D390 running a legacy flexlm license server under HP-UX 10.
The licenses are bound to the host id derived from uname -i.
Some of the licenses are so old that the companies which issued them do not even exist anymore, i.e. it is not possible to request changed license keys.
Problem is that the hardware is obsolete and might fail some day. We still have a bunch of old 712 and 715 workstations at hand though.

The question is, if it is possible for an HP technician to change the host id (from uname -i) e.g. on a HP712 or HP715 workstation so that the license server can be moved to another machine.

This can be changed from HP engineer with ssconfig tool. See previous - http://forums11.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?admit=109447626+1199865443413+28353475&threadId=1181650

Re: change host id on HP-UX for license server

Sorry for the duplicate post.
My mail notification was broken and I could not find my previous post when I searched the forum for my name so I thought the post had not been submitted.
Thanks for all of your answers

Here is your previous post:

The final answer is no, you cannot change the ID on your workstations, because this is bound to internal hardware (burned on the chips).

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: change host id on HP-UX for license server

Again sorry for the duplicate.
I think the search function is broken though.
When I search the forums for me as an author I only get 3 rather old results but neither my previous post nor this duplicate as can be seen from the attached screenshot.

Re: change host id on HP-UX for license server

To find your previous posts you should use your personal profile:

http://forums11.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/publicProfile.do?userId=BR654820&forumId=1

As said before, it is not possible to "transfer" the system ID of a D-class to a workstation like the 712.

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Very likely. I remembered a recent thread with the same question and it took forever to find it. Then I found it was yours.

Instead you could look at your profile. Your most recent 10 threads should be there:
