cksum + raw vol

can cksum be run on raw volume (LVM)?

No - chksum is for files - and there are no files "seen" by the OS.

Yes, it will work just fine:

e.g.
cksum /dev/vg09/lvol5

The nice thing about UNIX is that files are files even when they are device nodes.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.
